Power of Purpose

A person's purpose is a stable, self-chosen, and long-term intention to accomplish something personally meaningful while contributing to the world beyond oneself. It acts as a compass, guiding daily decisions, actions, and goals, often rooted in passions, values, or a desire to make a positive impact. 

Power, in its truest sense, is not about dominance or recognition.
It is the capacity to shape one’s own character. 

When we think of youth, society often says, “Wait your turn.”

But there is another way to see it.

This moment — your youth — is not a holding space.
It is a time of strength, clarity, and spiritual capacity.
Not a season for standing on the sidelines,
but a season for discovering who you truly are.

Being young — or a young adult — isn’t simply about “figuring things out.” It is a powerful stage of life:
a time of heightened capacity and moral awareness.

Bahá’í writings describe youth as a vital period of transition, rich with purpose, service, and growth,

But when life is guided by purpose, even in difficulty, a deeper peace begins to take root within. Perhaps the question is not whether youth possesses power, but how that power is understood. 

The world often measures power by influence, control, or visibility. Yet there is another kind of power — quieter, steadier, rooted in character, integrity, and the ability to uplift others.

When power is understood this way, purpose becomes clear. It is not about personal ambition alone, but about aligning our strengths with something greater than ourselves.

Lasting change in the world begins within. Through reflection and conscious effort, we gradually cultivate qualities like courage, compassion, and integrity — qualities that shape both our character and our communities. In this way, the Bahá’í view can be understood as a path of inner growth and social renewal: strengthening the individual so that society itself can be uplifted out of the darkness of confusion and conflict. 

If this is true… then what kind of power are we really talking about? Spiritual qualities that guide the choices that shape who we all become and the kind of society we build.

They are not abstract ideals — they are expressed in action. Each time someone chooses honesty over convenience, compassion over indifference, or courage over fear, they are drawing upon their inner virtues. Qualities such as kindness, patience, justice, humility, generosity, and trustworthiness are not merely admirable traits; they are the building blocks of both personal growth for a more united world.  

We invite you to consider: Prayer is absolutely indispensable to one's inner development; "this is the very foundation and purpose of God, the unknowable, infinite reality beyond human comprehension." Baha'i

We describe the unknowable as "the Giver, the Generous, the Merciful, the Forgiving, the Loving" and many more attributes because those are qualities we can relate to, even though God’s true essence is beyond our understanding. You can’t stare at the sun, but you know it's there; you can feel its warmth and see clearly by its light, rather than remaining in the dark, because you can't see where you're going. "For God is love."

inherent, in accordance with the creation of God,” Baha'i 

The sun is a powerful analogy for a spiritual truth; could it be that the earth is created the way it is to help us understand inner spiritual realities that exist within each one of us? Our minds are finite; God is infinite, but that doesn’t mean God is distant.
  

In this view, the purpose of life becomes a sacred relationship: awakening qualities latent within our being and letting them radiate outward first to our families, then our neighbours, our communities, our nation, and then the wider world, to all of humanity.

This intimate communication through prayer with the divine is the path to true happiness, revealing the creator within one's own being. It's an intimate act of turning inward to find God, always present within the human heart.

him (her) to know his (her) Creator and to attain His Presence." Baha'i
 

Are we created to know the One who knows us completely?

In essence, this communion offers profound fulfilment and unity with the Divine. Communion through prayer and meditation is considered the sweetest and most blessed spiritual state, fostering spirituality, mindfulness, and heavenly feelings, describing prayer as a conversation. A way to hear His voice, and the ultimate source of joy and connection.

"The greatest attainment or the sweetest state is none other than conversation with God... "  Baha'i

This love connection awakens a deep and enduring joy, one that transcends the storms of negativity, depression, hatred, anger, and despair. This communion cultivates spirituality, mindfulness, new spiritual attractions, and higher intelligence, and one discovers a peace so deep that even these storms we face in the world cannot shake it. 

When power is understood this way, purpose becomes clear…

Such a purpose does not develop by accident. It grows through intention. Through prayer, quiet reflection, and conscious effort, we strengthen the inner qualities that guide our choices and shape our character. This awareness reflects the divine within, a quiet alignment that brings harmony to the mind, steadiness to the heart, and brings strength and healing to the body.
